Head Start

Head Start is a comprehensive pre-school education program designed to strengthen not only the young child, but the entire family.  The program gives families who are living in poverty access to services that were previously unattainable and helps the families move toward self- sufficiency.


LRDA receives funds from the Department of Health and Human Services to operate a Head Start program.


There are three major components of the Head Start Program: 

Early Childhood and Health Services
Family and Community Services
Program Governance

The program provides comprehensive child development services to 155 children of all races between the ages of three and five.  The program operates three Head Start centers which are located in the following communities:

Rennert               Allenton               Greengrove
